  • ISO/TC 211 PRESENTATION - ABSTRACTS

Dear Jim Nell and Jim Fulton, sorry to be late with these proposed abstracts. Still, I hope you are willing to consider them for your workshop. They are rather briefly described, but will both be based on all the work that is invested in the ISO/TC 211 preparatory work.

THE REFERENCE MODEL FOR GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION/GEOMATICS - A FRAMEWORK FOR INTEROPERABILITY

This presentation would address the workshop bullet-point

    MODELLING REQUIREMENTS FOR GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION

ISO/TC 211 is preparing the following standards, all relevant for the proposed subjects of the workshop.

In particular the item "NP 15046 - 3 Conceptual Schema Language" would be of interest. The first draft of this item is finalized these days and could be an input for discussion at the workshop. The draft, and prework, deals both with conceptual modelling of geographic information and with modelling of service interfaces. Several existing methodologies are investigated, their strengths and weaknesses surveyed, and necessary modification/additions/complementing approaches identified.

    GENERAL

Because of the difficulties explained in earlier message, I cannot identify concrete experts to present these paper (if selected). Obvious candidates would be the respective project leaders, Norman Andersen of Lockheed Martin for the first one, Arne-Jorgen Berre of SINTEF, Norway, for the last one. We have also other possibilities. For the time being, I will take the responsibility of clarifying the situation. So, if this is acceptable to you, please use my name and address/e-mail, etc.

    Regards,

    Olaf Ostensen
