2. REVIEW OF PARIS MEETING MINUTES (N 401)

The minutes of the 26-27 June 1997 meeting were approved with the following changes and clarifications:

· Item 4.D, 2nd ¶: SC4 forming an ad hoc group, not a project, for "shared enterprise data";

· Item 5.A: "mapping" means "identifying the relationships between";

· Item 5.B, last sentence of 1st ¶: there was no final decision made on what changes are to be made to the components;

· Item 5.B, last sentence of last ¶: change the last sentence to "It was agreed that the normative part will mandate the four views." (i.e., delete the text within the parentheses).

3.REVIEW OF AGENDA AND OBJECTIVES FOR THIS MEETING

As it was agreed that this meeting would concentrate only on the "requirements standard" and not the GERAM annex, only the following two documents were distributed and given WG 1 "N numbers":

N 406: comments from Kurt Kosanke on the 2nd draft (1997-08-28) of the "requirements standard" (N 404);

N 407: comments from David Shorter on the 2nd draft (1997-08-28) of the "requirements standard" (N 404).

4. REPORTS OF RELATED ACTIVITIES

a) IFAC/IFIP Task Force: Peter Bernus, as IFAC-IFIP TF Chairman, mentioned that the IFAC/IFIP Task Force had prepared v1.5 of the GERAM (annex A for the "requirements standard"). Concern was expressed that another unsanctioned version of the GERAM had been circulated, and it was reiterated that the Task Force should be the sole developer, with Peter Bernus as editor, of the annex for the WG 1 standard. It was also pointed out that v1.5 is not yet written from the standpoint of being an annex to an ISO standard, but that this transformation can occur when the "requirements standard" becomes stabilized.

b) ICEIMT'97: Kurt Kosanke reported that the next ICEIMT workshop will be at the end of November in Brussels. Three more workshops--all to be held in Europe--are scheduled for 1998.

c) CEN/TC 310/WG 1: David Shorter mentioned that there was nothing new to report about TC 310/WG 1.

d) SC5 SPG: Greg Winchester circulated v2.0 of the SC 5/SPG's Strategic Plan. A number of proposed work items in the Plan were mentioned to be applicable to WG 1. This document will be circulated to the SPG for approval and then to SC 5 for use at its plenary meeting in May 1997. Thereafter, the document will be maintained by the SPG as requested by SC 5. ACTION ITEM: Jim Nell to post this version on the WG 1 web site.

e) SC4 Shared Enterprise Data: Jim Nell reported that SC 4, at its recent meeting in Florence, had requested that WG 1 provide SC 4 with information on how to model an enterprise. Jim Nell mentioned that he had responded to SC 4 by saying WG 1 was not currently in a position to provide SC 4 with a "cookbook" on enterprise modeling.

It was then asked how the MANDATE work of SC 4/WG 8 might fit in to SC 4's work on shared enterprise data. Jean-Jacques Michel responded by mentioning the three major areas of SC 4's focus: product modelling, part/component libraries modeling, and production data modeling. It was noted that there is a strong relationship between STEP methodologies and enterprise integration.

5. REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERPRISE-REFERENCE ARCHITECTURES (N 404)

a) Resolution of Kurt Kosanke's Comments (N 406):

KK1 to KK5: comments were accepted and Kurt Kosanke will supply a rewritten Introduction; this rewrite will change "simplifying concepts" to "principles" and list these more crisply and concisely. This will be submitted to Ted Williams, Editor, by 1 December 1997.

KK6: Comment accepted; Editor will add an ODP reference to the new Bibliography annex.

KK9: Accepted, but the wording shall be: "This clause defines requirements to be fulfilled...".

KK10: Accepted; , but the structure of clause 4 will be:

4.1 General/Overview (will include a short list of concepts)

4.2 Specific requirements

4.2.1 (title to be developed)

M

4.2.n (title to be developed)

4.2.1 through 4.2.n should include all the subclauses of the existing 4.1 and 4.3.

b) Resolution of David Shorter's Comments (N 407)

DS1: see comment DS9.

DS2: see comment DS9.

DS3: comment rejected.

DS4: comment accepted.

DS5: comment accepted; Editor will choose clarifying wording.

DS6: comment accepted.

DS7: comment accepted, but "planning for strategy making" is to be used.

DS8: comment accepted; Editor will choose more general wording (e.g., delete "manufacturing").

DS9: comment accepted; Editor will rewrite this so there is the relationship between timeliness and the master plan (also add "master plan" to the definitions).

DS10: comment accepted; Editor will mention that italicized terms appear in the Definitions clause.

DS11: comment accepted.

DS12: comment accepted.

DS13: comment accepted; Editor will delete the words "overall graphical form" (a generic definition of framework needs to be added) and will change "methodologies" to "components" in the 3rd line of §4.1.4.

DS13A: comment accepted.

DS14: comment accepted; Editor will delete the word "standardized" and add the phrase "and indicate deviations from that usage".

DS15: comment not resolved.

DS16: comment accepted; Editor will remove "(that is, the framework)".

DS17: comment accepted.

DS18: comment accepted.

DS19: comment accepted.

c) Other Comments:

Change Clause 2 title to "Normative References"

Delete 2.1 heading

Move §2.2 to a new annex entitled "Bibliography"

Move all the normative references except ISO 14258 (i.e., ISO 9000, 10303-11, 10314-1, 14000, and all the CEN standards) to the Bibliography

Add ISO 10746 to the Bibliography

An unresolved question: should there be a reference to 10303-1?

Clause 3: Editor will investigate splitting the definitions and abbreviations into separate clauses.

Clause 3: definitions will be grouped by topic; François Vernadat volunteered to be part of a definitions subgroup, but work by this subgroup will be delayed until the other normative clauses are stabilized.

Clause 4: requirements and supporting explanations appear twice (and then a third time in Annex A) in clause 4; these need to be condensed to just the requirements in §4.2.

Clause 5: replace 1st ¶ with: "The extent to which a candidate enterprise reference architecture complies with clause 4 is determined by:" followed by the list of 9 items (suitably modified for grammar).

ACTION ITEMS: Kurt Kosanke to supply Ted Williams with a redraft of the Introduction clause by 1 December 1997 for incorporation in the next version of the draft.

7. SCHEDULE OF FUTURE WG 1 MEETINGS

The date and location for the next WG 1 meeting was confirmed to be 10-12 February 1998 at the NIST facility in Boulder, Colorado, USA. It was discussed that WG 1 may tentatively meet during the week of May 11-15 in Paris when TC 184 and SC 5 meetings are being held. However, it was felt more time was needed in order to meet a September 1998 deadline to produce a CD. Thus, another date and location would be considered in order to avoid the distraction caused by TC 184 and SC 5.

8. ADJOURNMENT

With the attendees thanking Mr. Franco Naccari for Fiat's generous support and hospitality, the meeting adjourned at 16.45 on Monday, 27 October 1997.
