Fixtureless Inspection Using Vision and Solid Modeling 1pixw.gif - 43 Bytes
Fixtureless Inspection © Tom Radcliffe
Pictured: John Horst. This picture shows our testbed for experimenting with software component specifications. We are investigating how to specify components for a family of algorithms related to part pose estimation. Several algorithms exist for this problem, enabling us to study how to describe them so that systems developers can select the appropriate one for their application. A part to be inspected is placed on the work surface, without needing costly and time-consuming fixturing. An image is taken of the part, processed, and compared with a solid model of the part. The part's orientation is computed, and passed on to the inspection program, which can proceed automatically.
