Abstract:
This paper reports results of the Computer-Aided Manufacturing Engineering (CAME) Forum Second Technical Meeting held inAugust 1995. This meeting built on work completed since the first technical meeting held in March 1995. The meeting brought together software developers, manufacturing technology managers and engineers, and university researchers to address important issues related to developing a Manufacturing Engineering Tool Kit (METK). The meeting was organized around three major segments. During the first segment, NIST computer scientists and engineers updated participants on the status of ongoing METK development work. Presentations were given on issues regarding the manufacturing data validation methodology, business case and implementation plan, and system architecture and tools integration. An overview was given on the Systems Integration for Manufacturing Applications (SIMA) Production System Engineering project. The METK baseline pilot system was demonstrated to the Forum attendees. The second segment used breakout groups to solicit ideas and feedback from meeting attendees on the issues discussed in the presentation topics. In the third segment, breakout groups prepared out briefs and presented results to all meeting participants.
