Abstract:
The Systems Integration for Manufacturing Applications (SIMA) Production Project at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is working on the integration of a software tools environment for engineering production systems. This paper describes a process model for the engineering production systems and how that model is being used to integrate the commercial software tools into a workstation environment. The tools used to implement the environment are commercial off-the shelf software products offered by a number of different vendors. The project is being undertaken as a collaborative effort between NIST researchers, several universities, and U.S. manufactures.
