Abstract:
In the first quarter of '92, much of the activity of the National PDES Testbed revolved around two major events: CALS Expo '91 and the joint meeting of IPO (IGES/PDES Organization) and ISO (International Organization of Standardization). Together, these events accounted for more that half of nearly 30 Testbed-funded trips.

At these events, Testbed staff enhanced their coordination with the STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data) community and took several leads in charting the course of STEP's development. Testbed staff were elected to chair three STEP-related working groups or committees. Under the Testbed project "AP for Inspection Planning," a work-sharing agreement was informally established with counterparts from Europe's ESPRIT program.

Nine technical thrusts of the PDES, Inc. consortium were supported, including electrical/electronics standards. The Testbed Hotline fielded 20 calls, while the STEP On- Line Information Service was used to transmit more than 900 files to users.

A prototype STEP Data Access Interface (SDAI) implementation was demonstrated, while a major upgrade of the Fed-X compiler was related for shipping.

Five technical reports were issued. Through tutorials and technical sessions, Testbed staff played prominent educational roles at CALS Expo '91.
