Abstract:
The only DoD protocols supporting the Transport Layer in the ISO Model are UDP and TCP. UDP is packet-oriented which TCP is stream-oriented. It is often useful to mix characteristics of both. This paper describes a software package that simulates the useful properties of UDP while using TCP. Also included are some functions of easier establishment of connections than by using TCP/IP primitives. In addition some observations gained during the experience of implementing this on a 4.2BSD UNIX system are described.
