Description of Attribute |
Cutting Edge Material
Description of the material composing the cutting edge of a tool. This attribute refers to the cutting tip material on brazed tools, rather than the tool base material. [Examples: High Speed Steel (HSS), Carbide, Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD), Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN), etc.]
Cutting Edge Material Classification (optional)
A standard designation for the specific type or grade of the Cutting Edge Material. This designation may indicate the chemical composition of the material. The nature of this attribute is dependent upon the Cutting Edge Material and further specifies the exact form of the Cutting Edge Material. [Examples: M1, M2, M7, M10, M42, T3, T15, etc. for HSS; C-1, C-2, C-5, C-8, etc. for Carbide; etc.]
Cutting Edge Material Application Group (optional)
The commonly-used ISO functional designation for the Cutting Edge Material (as specified in ISO 513:1991). This designation provides for three groups of chip removal, based on three broad classes of material to be machined, which are designated by the letters P, M, and K respectively. Each main category is subdivided into groups of application based on the working conditions in which it is used. [Examples: P01, P20, P50, M10, M20, K01, K30, K40, etc.]
Cutting Edge Coating (conditional)
Description of the type of material coating (if any) applied to the cutting edge of a tool. [Examples: TiN, CrN, Al2O3, Diamond CVD, etc.]
Attribute only applies for solid tool cutting edges with material coatings.
Cutting Edge Material Manufacturer's Grade (optional)
An alphanumeric designation defined by the cutting tool manufacturer for the grade of the Cutting Edge Material [Examples: S6, GC305, GC4015, etc.].
Cutting Edge Brazed to Tool Body?
Indication of brazed vs. unbrazed tool (e.g., a PCD, CBN, or carbide-tipped cutting tool is brazed). [Valid values: Yes, No]
