Student Employment Opportunities

MSID routinely hires high school, undergraduate, and graduate students for temporary, interim, or year-round positions. These positions are based on availability and need.

General Information

NIST has a few student programs from which MSID would consider qualified candidates:

  • The Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP), which allows the fulltime, part-time or intermittent appointment of students year round for a period of not-to-exceed one year.
  • The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) is based on a cooperative educational (work/study) program, that requires 640 hours of work experience. NIST has co-op agreements with more than 90 colleges and universities.
  • The Student Volunteer Program provides students an opportunity to gain an educational experience in a variety of occupations and receive education credit as well. This assignment requires a formal agreement between the educational institution and NIST.

Each program cited accepts student's from an accredited high school, technical, or vocational school, 2 year or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school. For further information regarding the above programs, please contact the NIST Human Resources Management Division, 301-975-3000.
