MSID Standards Activities

Introduction

For general information on U.S. , foreign, and international voluntary standards; government regulations; and rules of conformity assessment for non-agricultural products please visit NIST's National Center for Standards and Certification Information (NCSCI). NCSCI serves as a referral service and focal point in the United States for information about standards and standards-related information.

From the global outreach and information offered by the NCSCI, there are a few specific standards' development bodies in which MSID participates. The specific participation in these various standards' bodies supports our work in the MEL Manufacturing Interoperability Program.  Our activities within the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) support dimensioning, tolerance, and mathematical definitions of dimensioning & tolerance for the MEL Dimensional Metrology Program.

NIST and MSID have also had years of experience in developing, testing, and fostering implementations of the national ANSI standard, the Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES).  While there are no longer any formal standardization efforts to further IGES, it is available for free from the USPro website.   Additional information on IGES can also be found at the IGES 5.x Preservation Society website.
