NIST Kickoffs Simulation Standards Consortium (Interaction)
Modeling and Simulation Group (MSG) of the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory hosted the Simulation Standards Consortium kick-off meeting at NIST on February 25, 2003. Charles McLean made a presentation on the mission, goals and objectives, and motivations for joining the consortium; and offered a framework of modeling and simulation standards for focusing the efforts of the Consortium. Swee Leong presented the operational plans for this Consortium. A draft Simulation Standards Consortium agreement and a copy of the generic machine shop data model were distributed to the participants for review, comments, and approval. The MSG staff also presented to the participants a series of demonstrations, prototypes and highlighted past accomplishments. Representatives from software vendors, industrial end users and the defense modeling and simulation communities made presentations from their respective perspectives on the needs and requirements of simulation standards efforts. Meeting attendance included about 25 participants representing 19 organizations from major software vendors, industrial companies, government and defense agencies, and university academia. Responses to the Simulation Standards Consortium have been very positive and the attendees were excited about participating in the new consortium.
