Bullet Standards

Three generations of bullet standards for checking automated bullet identification systems are depicted here. On the left is a quality control bullet used as one of the masters for machining the standard bullet on the right by numerically controlled diamond turning. A surface profile taken from the master bullet is used as the source of information to machine a similar profile on the standard bullet. 40 nearly identical standard bullets have been machined by this approach. The bullet in the middle is a brass prototype of the standard bullet and was machined earlier in the same way.
