William B. Penzes

Mr. William B. Penzes is an Electronics Engineer assigned to the Precision Engineering Division (PED) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), working in the field of high precision measurements of length standards. He is responsible for the NIST Line Scale Interferometer (LSI) and for calibration services for length scales. He is also involved in research and development of instrumentation for ultra precision dimensional measurements by means of laser interferometry, capacitance transducers, and their novel applications. He has authored or co-authored thirty technical papers and owns four U.S. patents in fields related to his work. He is a staff member of the Nanometer-Scale Metrology Group at NIST.

Mr. Penzes received the Department of Commerce Bronze and Gold Medals. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society for Precision Engineering (ASPE), and the Instrument Society of America (ISA).
